hope all hearties are doing well and best wishes to those with upcoming surgeries.
I have severe aortic regurgitation and enlarged heart.
I’ve suddenly noticed my heart rate dropping to the low 40s when I’m asleep. It used to be like this because of fitness but haven’t been able to exercise for a long time.
I’m waiting up with back pain/sore kidneys. Blood tests are normal however.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes. I have a long history of low heart rate, initially as you say because of good fitness. Since then and with a long and varied history (!), low heart rate periods (again, mostly at night for me) have set off various difficulties. It's partially a thing called having a high "vagal drive", which some people have, partially set off by meals (large, late, or difficult digestion), and by many different sorts of drugs: beta blockers are the worst, but also calcium channel blockers, and amiodarone. Check on Youtube for York Cardiology, Dr Sanjay Gupta.
I would check with your doctors, perhaps get them to do a Holter monitor, assess any meds you're on, etc. Normally, low heart rate on its own is not seen as a problem but you need to have anything else ruled out, first.
