I have posted previously here for my son who is 32 and for the past two and a half years has had periods of high heart rhythm [over 190] dull chest pain sometimes followed by a low rhythm [ 55] It's random and we have looked at possible triggers. This is getting more frequent and with a telephone consultation he was given beta blockers. This has helped but he is having to increase the dose. Last time I posted we were waiting for a monitor. We are still waiting. He has an FDA approved watch so he can keep an eye on what is going on when he feels unwell. Yesterday it showed Afib. He was feeling unwell. Called 111 who got a doctor to call back who said he would call an ambulance. The wait time was 16 hours!! A friend took him to A&E where he had an ECG and bloods taken which revealed thankfully nothing! However, mentally he is not coping. He's stuck in a system where we can't progress as he is not considered to have something "life threatening" Both his father and grandmas passed with a heart attack, uncles and cousins have had stents at young ages.

He's self employed and just become a father himself. I'm lost as to what to do next. Any suggestions as to how to manoeuvre this forward so he can live his life and contribute to his family and society?

Thank you

Elaine [ Karl's mum]

Hi, Hopefully, someone else will respond, however, have you considered also posting on the AF Association.

I'm with AFib myself, but, not much use with questions as it's kept in check by a Pacemaker.

I hope you get some answers.

Best Regards

Sorry to hear about about your son. In my recent experience of calling an ambulance, they tell you it’s a potential 16 hours wait but 3 times they have come within 10 minutes. I’m sure it puts people off waiting for one. I have Afib and was put on beta blockers and blood thinners before having a series of procedures. I think if he feels like he is in Afib again, he needs to get an ecg. Mine was picked up on a doc appointment just by the nurse feeling my pulse. From there I went through the system with relative speed - I assumed it was because of my age (43) but your son is a lot younger. My Afib was constant though so maybe that is a factor too.

I would say maybe go to GP and voice his concerns about the risk factors of Afib and how to mitigate them while he is waiting with either medication and/or lifestyle advice.

Best of luck!

Hi Bee Bee,

Thank you for your message and that's good to know about the wait times. You're absolutely right about catching an episode on a proper monitor but we can't seem to get one, although he is going back to the GP this week, however they're still doing telephone consultations which makes the whole thing more difficult.

But thank you for your letting me know what happened with yourself and stay safe and healthy ❤
