My husband had a heart attack 2 weeks ago and was unable to have a stent put in the artery that was blocked. He is having an MRI scan next week and the cardiologist will see him the week after. He mentioned, in a review letter, that they may perform a staged PCI but that this procedure would be of high risk. Unfortunately the letter doesn’t say what the risk is! This has been worrying me - thankfully my husband doesn’t read these letters so is unaware. Anyone had this experience? I can’t contact the consultant as he is on holiday! Thank you in advance for any replies.

I guess you can only get a definitive answer from the surgeon who would carry out the surgery on your husband. He may give a percentage factor of success, partial success or possible risk of death as a result of the surgery. You do need to know all of this before deciding to go ahead. What are the options, if any?I was once told there was a 2% chance of some serious event happening and later i was told with regard to another op. it was more like 20% of death under the anaesthetic. In my own experience I would be looking for that kind of conversation .If they operated in the worse scenario how long might the repair.replacement last? These are the things I would want to know.
I strongly advise you to contact the BHF nurses on here who can give you more information. They now operate 9:00 - 5:00 M-F, and 10:00 - 4:00 weekends and bank holidays. Their number is 0300 330 3311.
