Dear Hope70_

A big warm welcome to you and your first post here on the forum, I hope that the forum serves you as well as it has me.

Now reading your post I’m a bit confused to what to answer. It is very odd that the Dr has told you that you need a stent before your first cardiologist appointment and just based on an ECG.

Did the Dr prescribed you a GTN spray? Or get you to use one in the surgery? { this is a spray that relaxes and help relive any chest tightness and pain }

You will be well looked after during your visit and the Cardiology dept will order tests that can help them know what treatment is best for you.

Good luck with everything and please let us know how we can help you.

Take care

Thank you for your lovely response I have had GTN spray for a number of years after having all the stress test, scans etc but have been mostly fine, until about 6 months ago ignoring jaw pain mainly at night ,Till I went to my 6 month review for health issues that I mentioned what was going on ,which is at rest and active .

As you have been issued a GTN spray it may help relieve the systems until they can find the cause.

There is no reason for you to worry or suffer and all your questions need answers.

That is the medical professions job, hopefully your cardiologist will look after you.

Take care

Sadly from my bitter experiences over the past 5+ years almost all of the NHS are ass about face, they are next to useless, strangled by inefficient and unprofessional admin people and some very questionable doctors!

If by chance you have a GP who is at all approachable, make an appointment, either face to face or telephone, so that you can express your concerns just to judge their reaction, then if you don’t get any positive response, then I would personally make a formal complaint to your local Health Care Trust who have set procedures that they have to follow against pre-set time scales.

Good luck

Before anyone can tell you what treatment you should have you need the appropriate diagnostic tests, and in your case this sounds like it should be an angiogram to ascertain the degree and location of the coronary arterial disease. It should be done without delay.

My heart attack was preceded by jaw pain that got worse with each episode. I never had chest pain at all. Just a sensation of pressure while having the heart attack. My honest assessment is that you need to push this, and if you get serious jaw pain go to A&E. Doing so saved my life. Don't let them mess you about. It's not their lives on the line.

Hi, I was just wondering about jaw pain, I had heart attack 5 weeks ago, stent fitted and all been ok since, apart from a bit of a pain that has come on in the left side of my jaw, I don’t have any of the pains I had with angina or heart attack and feel otherwise fine, but jaw pain is a little worrying. Thanks Dave.

Hi. I would certainly mention it to your GP or cardiologist, whoever you see first. Did they say anything about residual disease levels in your other arteries? Every case is different. I had never had angina, was playing pretty heavy duty singles badminton up to a couple of weeks before the heart attack, and my only symptom prior to the emergency was intermittent jaw pain for a couple of weeks. I'd even been to the dentist thinking it was something he could sort out. During the HA I had severe jaw pain and pressure in chest. No chest pain as such, but it was a severe trauma and my pulse rate was down to 21 at one point and could easily have gone the wrong way. Anyway, after HA I was stented to the RCA which had been completely blocked. Just over a year later, I started with the jaw pain again. I already knew I had further disease in the other arteries because they'd told me they couldn't stent them due to the arteries themselves being too tortuous to get the kit into. They had hoped to control it by drugs. One day the jaw became too much, and I went to A&E which led to my triple bypass to the other 3 main arteries. Long haul after the surgery, but no more jaw pain. Main thing, if it gets bad, don't delay. Go to A&E.

Thanks for your advice, I have been to Gp and I have an ear infection and perforated ear drum which is causing swelling and pain in jaw, so on antibiotics. Thanks Dave.

Have you had an angiogram? I don't see how anyone can say you need a stent without looking inside your heart.

Pre Angiogram in 2017 the cardiologist told me there were several possibilities, they ranged from : Do nothing, medication, stent and bypass.

Sadly mine resulted in a bypass, if the blockage had been in another location a stent would have done, but all this could only be established with an angiogram.

If you haven't had an angiogram do you have a date for one?

Maybe you mistook you 'may' need a stent and took it as you 'will' need a stent.

I don't think anyone in the medical service would say you need a stent before a full diagnostic. I don't think I am THAT naive!
