Post AVR circular blob central sternum just above nipple line, 10 months ago, only slight pain when touching area. Is this just a bit of metalwork sticking out? Bit like small smartie below skin central sternum, anyone know about this, is it subcutaneous staple? 🤔

Dear ronnyharry

You need to have this looked at, as far as I was told that the sternum is wired together not stapled, but it could still be a bit of the wire.

The only bell ringing bit is that there is still pain in that area, just get it checked in case there is a little bit of infection there.

Mine still aches after 7months but it is an ache not a pain {probably due to age} and there is nothing to see other than a raised scar.

Take care

Thanks v much, it's a bit like touching nerve in tooth but not so bad, op was 9 months ago, there is still a low level ache about 1 out of 10,where 10 is max pain. Thanks very much, it seems like a little pea sized blob under skin, hope you are well xxxxxx👍😀

Hi, I had my ohs nearly 3 years ago and had a couple of small blobs, as you put it, appear about 1 year ago. Smaller than a smartie and both towards the top end of my sternum, no pain though. GP said not to worry unless continued to grow or were painful so I've not been back, or rather spoken to the GP re this.Depending on what I'm up to I still get discomfort though, not often, and I think that will ways be the case.

Take care.

Andy
