Living with fatigue after HA

I suffered HA & had 3 stents fitted in Sept 2020 aged 49. Still struggling mentally & physically but very glad I’m still here. The fatigue seems to be a constant factor now which I’m trying to live with, it’s not easy…

It's not easy but every day is a blessing You just don't know how your supposed to feel and alot of people have never been in the position to advise how you should feel.

You’re so right. Everyday is a blessing & I’m so glad of that. Some days are better than others & I’m learning to deal with those difficult days. Thankfully more good than bad days.

Hello :-)

I had a triple Bypass last August I am still so tired as well as sometimes my breathing is not as good as I would like it to be yet I have been checked and everything is working ok

I have done so many posts because I am struggling and someone replied in one of them which I remembered their words today when I was feeling as I was

They said sometimes it is about finding the new you and learning to live with how you are now and not before

It helped a little today as this is something I struggle accepting

Also I wonder if any of your medications could be making you feel tired ?

This could be something you could talk with your Doctor about

You are not on your own though feeling this way and I hope it does improve for you as I know it is not a nice feeling :-) x

That’s exactly right about the new you. I’m definitely learning to accept that. I’m guessing the medication I’m taking is probably a contributing factor to my fatigue. Also, I know if I over do it for a day or two I will suffer for a few days after. Trying to find a balance but not always easy. Best wishes to you.

I am sure no doubt the medications will possibly be playing a part ,I know mine do :-)

You are doing well been able to accept the new you :-)

Finding that balance is really hard but I am sure you will do it :-) x

Hi tracey. Sorry to hear you are still struggling. It struck a chord with me as I had my ha and 2 stents in 2019 a few years older than you at 55, but still considered young to have a ha. Likewise I am still struggling mostly mentally, but recently with extreme tiredness. The following is a reply I posted to someone else earlier today. "Just wondered what dose of bisoprolol you are on? About 6 months or so after my heart attack I was was recovering well, but felt so tired. After reading about it I wondered if it was the bisoprolol and asked my advanced nurse practitioner if I could try reducing it. After speaking to the consultant she agreed to halve my dose and I noticed a big improvement.Strangely I have been very tired again lately and plan to ask my GP.If it would be possible to try reducing the dose again"

Sorry it's a cut and paste - bit lazy!I

Not sure if this helps, but hope you can sort something out. Best wishes x

I’m on 2.5mg Bisoprolol which I considered a low dose but I suppose mixed with all my other meds this could be causing fatigue. I’ve recently changed my statin from Atorvastatin to Rosuvastatin due to muscle aches so it could be that too. Who knows! I shall keep plodding along and will mention to my gp if it continues.

I had a HA over 18 months ago. Like you I was on 2.5mg of Bisoprolol. A year after the event (which was a STEMI and non trivial, the cardiologist recommended stopping the Beta Blocker. I did so in stages over 3 weeks. Being on 2.5mg made me feel like a zombie. and finally stopping was a relief.

I have to say though that even after over 18months, I still feel tired after typically 1 hour of exertion.

I'd definitely try to get your GP to agree to you taking a lower dose of Bisoprolol, even just for a trial period, to see whether this is the cause of your fatigue. I'm on 1.25mg (originally 3.75mg) and I find tgat it does limit my exercise regime. However, having said that, I did walk 17 miles in 5 hours non-stop last autumn and I do climb mountains up in Scotland. 😀

Ahh Tracey 02 I know that fatigue. My HA was end July 21, age 59, it’s life changing isn’t it but as Bekind28 says there’s a new you, you’re still you just a little different. It’s hard not to compare yourself before and after your HA. I’m positive most of the time and have decided not to go back to work I have a life I intend to live. Acceptance of the new you is easier some days than others and my fatigue has been a lot less these last 2 weeks but now I’m scared it’ll be back any day soon. Fatigue for whatever reason can be part of you but it doesn’t have to own you. I hope you can keep positive.

Definitely life changing and yes some days are easier to cope with than others. We do need to live our lives, we deserve to after what we’ve been through. Staying positive not always easy but I’m working on it.

I am new to this site, but I noticed another answer that might help, first reply on this page:

They say

"Dr said I had to be on something to protect my stomach, my GP prescribed Omeprazole and not had that problem since. However, just so anyone reading is aware, the Omeprazole can cause a deficiency in Folate (Vit B9) as it can effect absorption from foods, I felt absolutely dreadful, no energy etc.

Bloods showed extremely low B9 so was given high dose Folic, within 48hrs I was ready to party!!

Since then and having Bisoprolol reduced, i feel as near to normal as i am likely to get and like i said, finally happy that i can live with what i'm taking."

That's very interesting. I talked to a Pharmacist and he suspected low folate. I got a blood test from the GP and it was confirmed. The cause in my case was both Lansoprazole and long term use of Phenytoin/phenobarbital. The Lansoprazole was changed to (Famotidine which is not a Proton Pump Inhibitor) and I started to take folic acid pills (400 microgram), and as yet I don't notice any difference. I would be interested in finding out what dose of Folic acid you are on.

Hello I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling under par. I am most certainly less fit and active than even immediately after my CABG x 2, 6+ years ago and a few months ago was extremely tired. Which of course made even less active. In my 60’s but felt more like 80. In the end I booked a private consultation with a cardiologist (impossible to see anyone through the NHS as we all know) and after putting through all the usual tests took me off 2 of my meds-1 of them the lowest dose 1.25mg of Bisoprolol. I feel like a new woman so much energy. I think 6 years of being on it had taken it out of me. Now working on getting my energy levels even better. Worth looking at your meds. Good luck.😊

I think it’s definitely time to speak to my gp regarding my meds. I’m guessing it may take sometime due to the current situation.
