Welcome here. It sometimes helps us to give a bit more detail about your issues with mitral valve, and what you’d like to focus on?

Thanks Kristen. I know nothing at all about mitral valve problems so any experiences would be helpful. What questions should I ask the cardiologist?

Hello Blueskystar and welcome to the forum. There must be all sorts of questions going around in your head so get a pen and paper and write them down so that you can take the list with you when you see the Cardiologist. The British Heart Foundation and the NHS websites are a good place to start. Read as much as you can as forewarned is forearmed!

You will probably have to undergo tests to determine a prognosis. Then with the Cardiologist you can discuss remedies.

In the early stages there are lots of ifs and buts so listen carefully and if covid rules permit, take someone with you to your initial consultations. A friend or family member may look at this with a more impartial view.

Most of all, don't worry. There are a lot of us on this site who have survived the surgery and go on to lead a normal life.

I have had problems with my mitral valve but had it repaired 18 months ago. I’d like to help you understand a bit more, but I don’t want to explain all the details of my issues and worry you as your problems may be very different. What have you been told so far and what tests have you had? I can then explain what you might expect to happen next.

Good afternoon.....first of all, being fairly new on here myself, let me first mention that it's a great community for chatting about concerns, issues etc do don't ever be afraid to ask. I have severe mitral valve regurgitation...urgent operation cancelled at last minute so am still waiting for my op. My symptoms manifested when my condition became severe and I got a real shock to be diagnosed. Cutting the story very short I would recommend reading about the condition....look it up on BHF....some Google info sounds quite dramatic. !!Don't be afraid to ask the cardio team/consultant questions...write things down and ask about any concerns .... not sure if you are on medication, but again....make sure you ask. I don't need mind admitting, I was so anxious initially about my diagnosis but have learnt to be less stressed and think more positively now about good outcomes and getting my fitness back so as to lead a fairly normal life again. I am a young at heart, newly retired 66 year old and am now much less nervous about procedures etc. If you need to ask me anymore, please feel free to do so....all the best
