Since having a pacemaker installed 3 weeks ago I have been making enquiries about returning to work.
I work in the North Sea and have to pass a medical exam every 2 years. After an initial discussion and emails with my local occupational health specialist I am beginning to fear that I may not be able to return to work.
Anyone working on the UK rigs any experience of this?

Occupational health are not specialists, they are there to assess the requirements of your job and your suitability to carry out the work. I would ask your occupational health to contact your consultant for advise. If the consultant say they see no reason for you not to continue work then it gives your employer reassurance.
I’m a mechanical/ electrical engineer and worked in a large car manufacturing plant. After my pacemaker was fitted I wasn’t allowed to work in the plant, I was assessed by safety and company doctor but due to the large magnetic fields around the plant and because of my actual job they wouldn’t allow it. I was very fortunate that I could take early retirement. So I guess you need to involve your union and safety department to risk access your job. Hope all goes okay for you.
