I spent an hour and a half yesterday having wax removed from my ears by microsuction. After continuous drops since September I decided I had enough and went privately. Although my left ear is now clear it was not possible to remove all from my right ear. So I have to continue drops for the deeper hardened wax for another week, and have another session of microsuction. The audiologist reckoned that my hospitalization with BPPV (Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) 2 years ago may actually have been caused by pressure from the wax build-up (the A&E doctor commented on the wax). Since then I have had the occasional dizzy spell which I put down to my medication, ACE inhibitor and beta blocker. I will be interested to see how things go on but I would suggest after my discussions yesterday if you are suffering symptoms like dizziness and nausea, and particularly if you're hearing does not seem 100%, have your ears checked for wax. Since Covid GPs seem to do no more than prescribe drops when you actually need the wax removed to move forward. It's quite a change to hear my wheelchair squeaking, ringing phones next door, etc. I thought it was worth mentioning if you have the symptoms and are going to the GP to change meds when in reality it should be made sure that the problems are not actually caused by a buildup of earwax!
