I can only speak from experience and say the stress test is usually a very effective gauge of there being a problem. Every other test I had didn't show an issue, I only managed 2 levels of the stress test and apologised and said I couldn't do anymore, I knew there was an issue when the nurse administering the test she had seen enough!!

It does sound as if there is another reason for the pain, I am not sure it is the meds though as surely they put you on the meds as you had pain in the first place?

I hope they find out what the problem is, not knowing is so frustrating.

Hi Heather,

Heart meds often cause gastric reflux (hence prescribing PPI's). Hiatus hernia cause gastric reflux too.😊

Hi Radars,

I've got a hiatus hernia too (since 2007). I couldn't tell the difference in the pain either. I spent 3 days chugging liquid gaviscon before I realised something was not right when the pain when into my jaw, and called an ambulance. HA & stent 2012.

There were other signs........but the one that stuck with me was that I had been having trouble walking any distance.........I now make sure that I go for a brisk walk every day, and if I can manage that OK without getting breathless, or my legs not wanting to keep going, I assume its gastric.

The hernia is a real pain in the ar$e, isn't it? I hate mine with a vengeance. the discomfort is constant.

I hope that they agree to let you stop the heart meds, and pleased for you that your ticker is OK.

Thanks, just have to wait now till gp gets results to see about stopping medication i am on for suspected anjina, I have stopped clopidogrel on my own, still on isosorbide mononitrate and statins, I will be able now to concentrate on my prostate cancer which has been taking a back seat with suspected anjina, which is now hiatus hernia which is not too good, might ease a bit if I stop heart meds, got to say I have learnt a lot more with been on here and reading all the stories some good and not so good.
