My vardiologist said I havd microvascular angina, well I did fit into all the right catogories, but then I got a bad chest nfection and was unable to yake my Ramipril 2.5 for a few days and like a miracle, my angina went away!!! Before, I couldnt even make my bed without sitting down three times!!! But it went, and I kept waiting for it to return but it didnt so I never took Ramipril again. Ask your Doc though, get advice always

Tricia, I would never stop taking heart medication without consulting a doctor. Ramipril does have side effects, for sure, but it's also proven to be key in preventing future heart attacks. If you think MVA is a side effect of Ramipril, I would definitely try to get that confirmed.

Not to be a scold, but this is what the NHS says: "Ramipril helps prevent future strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems. It also improves your survival if you're taking it for heart failure or after a heart attack."

Hi Tricia,

Was your diagnosis of Microvascular angina presumed or following testing?

Perhaps discuss the issue with your Cardiologist and ask them to confirm your diagnosis?

There are alternative medications to treat Microvascular angina.

Yes it was following testing. Yes I stopped ramipril but told cardiologist. I couldnt believe the difference when i stopped taking it. No I never said it causes MVA simply it was a side effect which happened to me. My body hates everything and I get all the rare side effects. I have a different drug for it now.

It is certainly sometimes a challenge to find the best medication to suit us as individuals.

Unfortunately there are no medications specifically designed to treat Microvascular or vasospastic angina.

I am glad you found an alternative is working for you.

Just out of interest which tests did you have?
