Hello Dazzy B

Why the question. Do you think Bisoprolol is altering your ef ??

I believe I am correct in saying that EF if in relation to Heart Failure has 3 levels Severe, Moderate and Mild and they are used in a combination of both EF and NYHA Levels arrived at by looking at Symptoms. I don't know the level of exercise required to improve EF, but Medication can improve EF by remodelling the way the Heart Muscle works. Another way to increase Heart Function is by a Pacemaker it all depends on why you have a low EF if that is the case !! I also think I am correct in saying that Bisoprolol make the Heart Stronger but again stand to be corrected

Regards

Even if it doesn't improve EF, the benefits to general health and fitness will help generally. I know if I don't do regular sessions on my rowing machine I can really tell I need it.

Bisoprolol reduces your heart rate. It does so by reducing the effect of adrenaline on the heart. For people who have had a heart attack, the idea is to protect the heart.I was on 2.5mg daily, and my resting heart rate was 60 ish. EF as measured by an echo so not absolutely accurate was 55%.

Having come off bisoprolol, resting heart rate increased to 72-73.

EF measured differently is 60%. I don't think this is anywhere near conclusive though

Wow. Thank you so much for finding these articles. I have started light exercise with the objective of increasing my EF. After the comments from Trst I was feeling very low with bad anxiety. This has truly lifted me and my family. My cardiologist has gone long term sick so have no communication yet. 👍

Totally agree Trst. Good exercise, food, sleep and attitude. I’m struggling with sleep and attitude at present and need to think positive 😊

I like to take a beta blocker prior to an Echo to calm my nerves during the test, so I'd like to know the answer to this as well.

From my experience, my last Echo (at rest) in August showed EF of 64%. However I had a Nuclear Stress Test done two weeks ago that showed my EF at 77% while at peak heart rate exercising on the treadmill. Therefore as Richard pointed out, a lower heart rate due to a beta blocker may reflect a more calm (lower) EF, but I am not positive on this.

Contrary to this theory however is when I was in an 8 day siege of high heart rate AFib last May, and the Echo done while in AFib showed a lower EF of 60%. I guess this would not be the same as straight exercise in NSR because the heart was doing everything it could to keep up beating out of rythym with increased back pressure, etc.
