Worried about echo

I am new here so forgive me for long story. In April my partner was given a routine echo by the respitory team. We had a letter saying it showed an impairment in his heart function and had been referred to cardiology. Managed to speak to secretary who said it showedmoderate to severe left ventricular dysfunction, left ventricle normal and right ventricle moderate. After waiting until last week I phoned hospital again about appt and they said they were only seeing January referrals now. Decided to see private consultant for information about results. He seemed quite concerned and said it was very significant to see this in somebody so young (56). He ran an ecg which was fine and BP normal. I told him that nhs appt had classed it as routine to which he replied "maybe a clerk had done this". I immediately worried even more. Phoned hospital who said no way this would happen doc has looked at it and assessed as routine. I just am worried sick now and wondered if anyone could shed any light!!. Sorry for long post 😯😂

Hello and welcome to the forum. It’s always a shock and a worry when you’re diagnosed with a heart condition and even more so when you have to wait...and wait...and wait. I do sympathise. I know even private help takes longer than usual now too. Did the private consultant say what the cause of the LVSD etc is, wha the next steps should be, including what meds would be appropriate? And are they putting it all in writing for you? It would give you something to go back to NHS Cardiology and/or your GP with to discuss/ask for.

Also the BHF nurses are fantastic in explaining, suggesting the way forward etc so it might be worth phoning them. They’re available working weekdays, 0330 300 3311.

Thank you for your reply, the private doctor said that tests were needed to find out why. He will write to cardiology nhs, we are already on the waiting list there anyway. He prescribed junior aspirin and ramipril which we need to speak to gp to get.I am just concerned that nhs think it's routine and I got the impression from him that it was urgent. I was a bit shocked really and should have asked more questions like what percentage his systolic function was etc. Going on conversation with nhs I don't expect to be seen until maybe end of the year.

Can only agree with Shar about contacting the BHF nurses. I think we are all behind with routine treatments now.
