Aortic aneurysm

Hi everyone, I have been a member here for a couple of months but I have plucked up the courage and this is my first post.

I have had congenital heart problems since I was born (all fixed in childhood) but by chance whilst having a chest X-ray in March it was discovered I have a 4.7 aneurysm on the arch of my aorta.

I will need a bypass so that a stent can be fitted to fix this. I was due to go into hospital on Monday for OHS but unfortunately I was tested for Covid before my surgery and it came back positive so everything has been cancelled. My son had covid last month and they think I had it then but had no symptoms.

I am now in limbo again and have been told by the hospital that I will need another 2 weeks isolation and a negative test before they will allow my surgery. It looks like it will be November at the earliest I will be offered a date.

My question is, has anyone had this surgery before and has anyone else been tested positive weeks after they had covid and what is the likely hood of still testing positive in November. I’m worried I will get to 48 before surgery again and boom it’s cancelled again. Thanks for any help you might give me

Hello :-)

I had to say hello as you have been on here reading and now have done your first post which takes some doing :-)

I am not an expert on your condition regarding your heart but had a triple Bypass done

I am so sorry you caught covid which has delayed your op having an op in the first place is enough to deal with never mind that happening to cause it to be cancelled !

But you must be a survivor you got through covid so I am sure you will get to your op to :-)

The chances of you catching it again are slim but what you could do if you get a date or a rough idea when it might be then go into self isolation a couple of weeks before that should stop any risk of catching it and hopefully your op will soon take place :-)

Others with more knowledge than me will give you their advise as they see your post :-)

Good Luck and let us know how you get on :-) x

Hi, thanks so much for replying. I guess I will have to sit tight and wait for another date. I have been told I will need to self isolate again and take another pcr test and hope that all remnants of covid are gone as it take up to 3 months to get a negative test after initially having it.
