Heart attack 18 months ago, 5 day hospital stay, one stent fitted.

Care in hospital very good. Surgery very good and surgeon was happy to discuss it with me as it took place. Nutritional advice in hospital was poor. Rehab has been non-existant. No outpatient appointments since the event. No time spent with a GP or cardiologist since leaving hospital other than a call at the start of this year to ask how I was, and then to discharge me.

That is a very difficult thing to answer. We all have different problems , and different reactions to the treatment. I am on a high dose of a drug with no side-effects, while others can't tolerate it at all. The main BHF website has lots of useful information, and you can search this forum for previous comments on a variety of topics. Most people are agreed on the necessity of a good diet, and following recommendations on exercise.

If as your profile says you have reached 84, you are in better shape than most of us!

Hi Bartokien. We're all pretty anonymous on here, but we need more information from you to give you any sensible answers.

Hi Bartokien and welcome to this forum - good start to sorting out any of your issues. As mentioned by Alison_L you may receive more appropriate responses if we knew a bit more about the condition you are concerned about. If you have high blood pressure best to follow the advice of your GP who should be able to start you on the right medication to correct it. It's best not to read too much into others reactions to medication unless you are on it and experience undue side effects which your GP should be able to advise on. BHF have a free helpline where you can talk through any concerns with a specialist cardiac nurse as back up to any advice from your GP - details are on their website. The biggest danger is not doing something to reduce high blood pressure and correct the causes behind it.

Welcome Bartokien. My mother-in-law is 87 and taking blood pressure medicine. She triedAmlodipine/benazepril Cap 5-20mg but coughed all the time. Her doctor put her on Lisinopril and she is doing well, but I couldn't use Lisinopril because I coughed all the time.

As for heart medicine, she is not on any other medications, but I am on entestro and eplerenone. I have had trial and error on medicines because I could not tolerate a lot of the medicines. Your body can be different than hers or mine. You know your body, health history, and how it works. Your doctor/GP can only prescribe the medication(s). Whether you take it, it's up to you. People can give you a better answer if they know what medications you are referring to and what it's for because some medications are used for so many different reasons. None of us like to take medicines and my mother-in-law and I are in agreement with this. As my mother-in-law says, "Every day above ground is a great day! "

Have a Blessed Day!

Find a good cardiologist. Also I am a Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist and the doctrine is, The Lotus Sutra, English translation by Burton Watson. It puts things in perspective, I need to prolong my life so I can continue to help people with this practice and bring out my wisdom. I chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.
