Metoprolol not helping..how long does it take?

I started on metoprolol August 23rd switched on August 28th to propranolol was on that three days and it did nothing. I switched because of the anti-anxiety rating for propranolol then I switched back to metoprolol under the doctor's care last Sunday today is Thursday heart palpitations eptopic beats I don't see where this medicine is helping at all. It did seem like it was helping a little bit the first week I was on it but then I went off of it for the propranolol and then back on metoprolol and it's definitely not working near as good. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to really see any benefits from metoprolol I'm on 25 mg succinate ER half in the morning half at night.

Hi, I'm no expert but I think that you have to give any medicine time before it really starts working. I don't think you have given either one enough time really. If you get side effects usually it says they will settle down after a set time.In saying that it did take me three different blood pressure tablets before I got on the Losartan one I'm on now, I must have driven the Cardiac people nuts complaining about them.

Did your doctors not say it may take time for them to work 100%?

Good luck finding the right one for you.

Best wishes

Denise

Haha that's exactly what I was thinking I probably drive my cardiologist nuts.Honestly they never really told me anything about how long it would take to start working I went off the Propranolol because it was dropping my heart right and my GP wasn't really happy with that nor was I. I really do hope it helps I have suffered with this so long. If not then it's on to the next. I am really glad that you are on a medication that works well for you!!

I have been on a schedule that allows for 12.5 mg with breakfast and the same with little food in the evening before bedtime for a few weeks. The dosage and schedule seem to reduce anxiety without introducing fatigue. You may want to keep it up for at least 2 weeks to get the benefits. Best.
