Had triple bypass it’s over 2 years ago. Recovered well. Recently been diagnosed with angina. Really scared. Don’t seem to be able to see anyone for advice I. How to increase my meds. Just get text from doctor. Consultant just says will write to doctor. I just want to speak to another human being about this!! Angina pain seems to be worsening. Husband wants me to go to a and e but really do t want to. Going to try to get appointment with doctor this morning. Wish me luck. Getting very anxious about doing anything at all just in case I get pain. What to do?!?!!

My heart goes out to you. It must be an awful blow, to endure the stress and discomfort of a bypass operation only to experience the return of the same angina symptoms.

You absolutely do need to speak to your doctor and get a referral to a cardiologist. In the meantime it might be worth contacting one of the experienced cardiac nurses on the BHF telephone service.

I'm not qualified to give advice, but as I understand it a percentage of bypass grafts (that I've seen variously estimated at 10-20%) can become blocked again). However, the good news is that this is most likely to be the veins taken from your leg or arm, not the mamarian artery that's used for the most critical part of the bypass operation. So even though it's a set back it's unlikely to take you back to square one. Furthermore, there's still the possibility of opening up these blocked grafts with stents.

Good luck!

This happened to my husband 5 years after bypass. Turns out surgeon really should have done quadruple by pass as scheduled, but for whatever reason only did a triple.

Husband has ended up with a stent fitted. You really do need to get this sorted , good luck

Thank you. Trying really hard to get it sorted but so frustrating trying to get help. Got to the point where I feel neurotic and over acting but my anxiety levels are so high need to sort this out Thanks again for your kind words and advice

I'm really sorry to hear about the diagnosis after all that you have been through with the bypass surgery. Hopefully a conversation with your GP will get you back into the system for further treatment as appropriate. I understand your reluctance to go to A and E, but the option is there if the pain gets worse.

I hope that you can keep positive and that you get some answers soon. Angina is treatable - my mother lived with it for a very long time.

With my best wishes,

Gerald

Thank you. Just hate the angina feeling and am getting to the point where I am anxious about doing anything. Need to be addressing my anxiety issues also. But thanks for your kind words
