Ten days in and I'm worried - am I over reacting

Ten days in for BP meds (Ramipril) - I have lost 6 pounds in weight and eating a very well balanced diet. My Bp reduced from 185/115 to average 140/93. However this morning I record 185/115 and 181/111 and I go into absolute panic mode!! Surely BP should be lower in the morning. I have put in an e consult to my GP asking to discuss my condition and its treatment as I haven't yet had a physically consultation due to Covid (Its pretty impossible to get in at the GP). Am I over reacting - I just feel so anxious that I am wasting there time and should wait for my scheduled appointment in 3 weeks time.

Hi, sorry to read that you’re in a panic. Firstly, never think that you are wasting the doctors time. Only you are aware of your body and symptoms. The doctor is never going to think of phoning you ( unless it’s a small practice) because they are onto the next patient. It’s up to you to tell them any concerns.

Secondly, it can take a few weeks for drugs to take full effect.

Well done for losing weight,if you needed to. Blood pressure is ideally under 130/80. Looks like you’re heading in the right direction. There will be a few spikes along the way eg hot weather, exercise, anxiety.

Do you take your meds with breakfast? Personally I found this the best way.

Hope you get your consult with your gp. Keep pestering them until you are happy with your treatment and stats.

I'd say don't panic over one high reading, from what youve said its pretty obvious why your second pressure reading was high, you've given yourself the equivalent of "white coast syndrome".If you have a two or three days of high readings I'd contact your GP.

I take my BP every day, sit in my comfy chair, no TV radio or other disturbances, I sit and chill for a minute with the cuff on and when I'm relaxed I press the on button. I keep a note of the reading.

I've been on Ramapril for 5 weeks now, I have cut down my portion size and I'm pleased to say I've lost 8lbs in weight, another 6lbs to go to get to my target.

Its brought my BP down from c.115/70 to c.100/63 so its doing its job but initially it gave me lots of dizzy spells, these have gradualy reduced but if i get out of the chair too quickly i do get dizzy.

Hi,No you are not over reacting at all. You are worried and anxious and that is perfectly normal. I am on a BP tablet and bisoprolol and so far my BP.has been normal for rhe first time in years!! However, I bought a BP machine today and wish I hadn't now because the reading is like yours!!! I don't smoke or drink, and I took it when I was rested and relaxed. The only thing I can think of is I am weaning off a horrible medication just now because of a host of nasty side effects and I'm wondering if this is affecting my BP?? You just start imagining all sorts don't you?? And you home in on every little twinge and niggle you feel. Don't feel.bad about getting in touch with your gp as soon as you can, this way you will.get it sorted out. Good luck.
