Coming up to my five year anniversary of my bypass and I am having a bit of a problem with some of the wires in my chest.
I have always had one or two protrusions from the wires, this had given me some pain at the beginning which moderated as the years went by. I was told that this was caused by the nerve ending knitting round the wires.
Now, nearly five years in, I have three areas that are causing pain at various times and with various movements, surely can't be nerve endings after this time? Was wondering if anyone else has had or is having a similar issue and what they have done.
Thanks

I too am coming up to 5 years since my surgery, thankfully haven’t had a problem with the wires, but was told by my surgeon by 18 months after surgery new bone will have grown over the wires and my sternum would be stronger than his. I would certainly have a word, GP/cardiologist. I have just been given an appointment for my 5 year review with my cardiologist though not until next year😂 so by then it will be 6 year review!
I had a small piece of plastic protruding from my sternum near the top, it had worked its way up over time and it really itched. My GP said just leave it it will drop out on its own !!! When I went for my cardio appt after a year, the consultant said right, wait there and clipped it out, it was irritating more than hurting. Just ask your GP and hopefully they will get it sorted for you.
