Hi .This my first time on here and would appreciate some advice. 6 weeks ago I had a triple bypass and have been prescribed amidarone 200mg once a day to control afib. My question is this a permanent medication now that my heart rate is much improved.

I would say that is really a question for your Cardiologist/GP.

Sean, Welcome to this forum! Clearly I cannot comment on your specific case but I can tell you my experience. I had a triple bypass in October 2020 and had episodes of atrial flutter in the first few days post-op. I was put on Amiodarone iv while in hospital, and was subsequently discharged with 200mg Amiodarone tablets to be taken twice a day, with instructions to reduce it to once a day after a week. At the time I was discharged there was no sign of atrial flutter so the amiodarone was simply a precaution because (I was told) that the heart can take weeks to settle down after a bypass op. At my 6 week check with the hospital cardiologists my ECG was normal and Amiodarone was stopped. A few days later I had a 24 hour monitor to check that all was well - and it was. So in my case Amiodarone was a temporary medication and was stopped at 6 weeks post-op. I have to add that I thought Amiodarone was adversly affecting my sleep so I was very keen to stop taking it. Hope this helps.
