Any Advice would be grateful

Hi my son received a dx of HCM in April he is 14.

He has developed a chesty cough with discoloured mucus, do you think I should contact the Dr he is really tired and not his usual boisterous self. He has had this since Friday. I don't want the Dr thinking I'm a over cautious mum but everything scares me right now

Thank you

Should probably have a covid test for starters, call 111.

He has them twice a week for school. All the kids in class are unwell but I don't know if I should get him checked because of this new diagnosis HCM

If in doubt I would get him checked out. With lockdown lifting and everyone back to school and out and about there are bound to be loads of viruses and bugs as well as dreaded Covid flying around.

The chances are he has just picked up a mild upper respiratory virus / cough cold but even with that his heart will have to work harder as does everyone’s when fighting off an infection. The problem when you add in a heart condition is that everything has to work harder and it can really knock you. I would call NHS 111 explain his diagnosis and that as his mum you are concerned as he’s clearly not his usual self. It is prob best that he gets checked out and has chest listened to by Dr or Advanced clinical practitioner. They won’t think you are being fussy as you are doing the right thing. Hope he feels better soon x
