Rising pulse rate

Can anyone explain why my pulse rate which was always between 75 and 85 over the last year or so has risen to between 100 and 120.I do not suffer from stress or anxiety as am a pretty laid back person.Just curious to find a reason.Thanks.

Thanks for the advice.I will get it checked out. It`s difficult to see a GP at present but I`ll try.

GP appointment may take a long period of time. You can check your blood pressure on your own, and it's kind of important.

Hi,I`ve no idea how to check my blood pressure.

Buy a BP arm monitor from Boots. They are cheap and accurate

Will do,never thought I needed one!Obviously don`t know a lot about my own health,or lack of it!!

I was told by cardiology that our hearts will beat at anything under 100 bpm indefinitely but over 100 bpm continuously is damaging and needs prompt attention.

Thank you for that, will do x

I have an irregular heart beat occasionally mine goes up for a few seconds I found that out after having had a mild heart attack last May and a stent put in , I was told nothing to worry about I am on bisoprolol to keep it regular but I'm told it goes up and down throughout the day for no reason if you have or cold or not feeling well but yes get it checked out , I used to wear a fitness watch paranoid about my pulse rate I don't wear it now I think they make you over worry I check my blood pressure regularly and pulse rate maybe weekly or fortnightly and it's fine... sheila

Thank you for replying.I didn`t realize it could be a bit of an issue.x

That is what happened to me 80bpm regular then suddenly out of the blue I had a warning from Apple Watch the bpm was 150. Left it for a while as I was watching rugby then phoned 111 and was advised to go to A&E a cardio version and some drugs then diagnosed with atrial flutter. Came from nowhere though. My HR is now average 100 to 110 bpm and heading for an ablation.

Thanks for reply and my brother has had an ablation and is brand new so I hope it`s the same result for you.I have heart failure and a pacemaker so that`s why I`m so surprised about about pulse rate but will check it out.x

That’s good to hear about your brother I am hopeful the ablation will work. Surprised at your heart rate with a pacemaker.

Yes I`m surprised too.Don`t understand it,x

Thank you Boris but I already have a pacemaker which is why I`m confused.x

But is your pacemaker a type that controls tachycardia ? My pm only controls bradycardia so I still get SVT.

I really don`t know but that`s very interesting and I will certainly speak to a doctor tomorrow, thank you.x

I`ve looked up tachycardia on the nhs website and my pulse rate is permanently raised not sporadic however I have put on weight over the year though I`m still not overweight and I do drink but less than the recommendation.I had a new pacemaker fitted in January, perhaps it needs checking.x

What was the reason for your original pacemaker? If it was to treat slow rate then it probably isn't one that controls fast rates, mine doesn't. Have you had a thyroid check ? increased heart rate and weight gain are symptoms.

Yes,slow heart rate. Will certainly get myself checked out.I know very little about my health as you might have gathered but my energy levels have deteriorated badly over the last couple of years despite doing my best to stay fit. It`s impossible to see a cardiologist so will have to do with a gp.Let`s hope I get a good one!x

I'm not aware of a pacemaker that can lower tachy pulses. They can introduce extra pulses for bradycardia but cannot arrest pulses in tachycardia.Must be a new thingy.

No idea either!

From the Mayo Clinic site "

"Some types of tachycardia can be treated with a pacemaker"

Palpman profile image

That's not a pacemaker but a defibrillator that shocks the heart back into normal rhythm.

Just checked. No new pacemaker available to decrease fast heartbeat. Due to the complexity of this, it will never happen.

Only pace and ablate will do it.

Not what you're looking for?
