Walking ....

Four weeks ago today, my husband suffered a major heart attack (LVSD) but was attended to by our wonderful fast efficient nhs ambulance and team, whisked to hospital, had four stents inserted, and sent home after four days with pills for life. There will be future appointments once Covid is further behind us and we have phone numbers at hand for any concerns.

He is progressing really well, enjoying short walks and pottering around quite cheerfully. Our diet has improved and we trust his recovery may continue although we know there may be limitations as his heart has suffered some permanent damage. However, walking was our passion - even done Hadrian’s Wall twice! But more locally, the Peak District is our love. We have optimistically booked a cottage there in September for a week of perhaps more gentle walks (as far as possible for the Peak District!).

We’re also in our seventies so need to be realistic. Just wondered how well someone might feel in time after a big heart attack several months later - will those boots and rucksack see more use?! Thanks ... 😊👍

So pleased to hear your husband is doing well. Heres hoping you have many wonderful walks in the glorious Peak district. I am sure you will start slowly and follow medical advice on how to get back to a good active life. Many glorious villages and coffee shops to enjoy in the Peak district until more energetic activities can be undertaken.

I am lucky enough to stroll five minutes up the road and hey presto there i am surrounded by the glorious peak district beauty. I can even look out onto it from my bed lol.

If you are in your 70's you are probably in your retirement and so you have all the time in the world., (ho,ho). Get your boots out and gentle walking every day will help you greatly. Find some flattish paths in your locality and you can gently build your stamina and your confidence. If these restrictions are lifted you may even find a few with coffee shops half way round.

Spring is here, the green stuff is bursting forth and you can get out and enjoy it. I am 76 and my wife and I are about to stride out for about 8-9,000 steps as soon as the meat has gone in the oven. I think Austria is going to be out of the question this year (disaster - no ski lifts), so a gentle walking holiday in the UK will have to be on the cards.

Not what you're looking for?
