Hello Hiebertc
Welcome to the forum, can you expand on the post? are you having surgery for Aortic valve replaced, and have questions?
I'm 72 years old had aortic valve replacement surgery on November 10. 2020 OHS also had aorta repaired. It's been almost 3 months . I can spend 4 or 5 hrs. In my workshop doing woodwork most days.
I have mostly good days however i have some not so good days. Especially if I overdo it in the workshop.
3 weeks ago I noticed my heart was racing, 150 BPM 90 to 100 at rest so I called my doctor. I had been on Metoprolol since surgery but was off of it after 2 months. Doctor put me back on and it stabilized right away 12.5 mg twice a day. It makes me depressed and I don't have as much energy as before. I hope i don't have to take it too long.
Hello again,It’s not very long since your surgery, I had Aortic valve replaced and bypass 4 years ago age 68, it takes 8-10 weeks for our sternum to heal and somewhat longer to get our stamina back. What we went through is major and we had a huge dose of anesthetiser and that takes time ( more than we imagine to work it’s way out of our system. Plus our brain is still processing what as happened to us, heart as been stopped we were on bypass, and it takes time to adjust!
You will get back but it’s small steps.
Best wishes Pauline
Hello and welcome to the forum!
As said by 080311 your statement just leaves to many unknowns. Is it a straightforward aortic valve replacement via OHS (open heart surgery) or TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation)? Is the aortic root being replaced? Is the aorta being repaired?
If you can expand your query I am sure forum members will be pleased to help.
