High heart rate at night..

So, my normal resting HR is around 65, I have a wrist heart monitor that shows that during my sleep my HR goes down to around 50-55. I have been suffering from night-time PVC's for a few years now and am taking bisoprolol, atorvastatin and aspirin....however over the past couple of weeks my wrist monitor has recorded my HR as high as 128 on several occasions whilst I am asleep....I have had every test known to man on my PVC's which has ended up with my cardiologist saying that I will just have to live with it.....they can do no more.......any advice please?

I stopped wearing my Apple Watch due to the false readings as they were worrying me (unduly) when clearly they were incorrect.

Although accurate most of the time, it only takes a movement or wrong position for the sensor to get a false reading. I think only a chest strap type monitor or a medical ECG device can guarantee good quality readings.

I think the current smart watch offerings are great for exercise, Strava and zone training but for hearties like us to use as a HR monitor they may throw more worry our way rather than appease us.

Personally I would not worry unduly about these, unless you felt a racing heart or some other symptoms. Also a manual pulse check every now and then is a good indicator. I can fairly accurately guess my BPM over a 10 second manual pulse. If really concerned please call your doctor and arrange for another 24/48/7 day tape. I am sure they will oblige.

You could be going into AF and then spontainiously reverting back into synus rhythm. Your doctor could do some 24 hour monitoring for this. Anyway it should be checked out I think.

It would be ideal to be fitted with a Holter monitor for 24 or 48 hrs to get an accurate reading of heartrate and anything else going on heartwise rather than going by a wrist monitor. The NHS is so under strain just now that making demands for tests when other than the night time readings of a wrist monitor to go by. We are all suffering I thing from underlying anxiety manifesting itself in various ways. I personally have occasionally wakened suddenly from complicated adventure type dreams since the start of the pandemic. Try some relaxation videos from youtube in the evening orany quietening of the mind exercises. The mind can have quite an impact on the body as we all know. I happily take Atorvastatin rather than risk high cholesterol. A friend's husband refused it it just so he could eat a lot of pineapple which is advised not to take in large quatities. Unfortunately he took a heart attack and the rest is awful. Best be guided by your GP. Best wishes.
