Failed too reduce my frusemide

My HF nurse advised me to reduce my fruesmide from 40mg BD to 40mg OD, it was only 24 hrs before I got breathlessness and then air hunger. So I lncreased it back to twice a day. What experience have you all had in reducing medications? They are doing it so they can increase my Ramipril, but my BP is low and don't want to make it even lower!! Just feel like it's a step back, and I feel disheartened, also I'm a nurse and I go onto half pay in April so I feel pressure to get back to work!!

Normally I take Bumetanide which is similar. 2 tabs in the morning and have now started to take an extra 1 at lunchtime. Due to swelling of ankles and waking up at night gasping for breath. So far the extra 1 is doing the trick, my heart nurse agrees with this so that's the solution for me, for now anyway.

One of the doctors at the jubilee done the same with me and knew myself something was wrong fluid was building up faster so had to get the dose back to normal as I am still on a strict fluid diet that has me needing to go to the toilet litterately 5 minutes after I have just been!but I don't mind and would like to say thanks to all the heart doctors nurses from hair myers to when I was moved to the jubilee with a pump inserted ,think they see all the best friendly nurses, doctors and put them in heart wards, not to say that all the NHS are doing a great job and me and my 3 year old daughter was out every Thursday cheering and clapping!

Hi Brian1974

Read your post with interest, agree wholeheartedly about the staff in cardio wards, I was in Hairmyes for 7 weeks before being moved to the Golden Jubilee for my Aortic valve replaced and bypass. That was 4 years ago and I am grateful every day for the medical team that gave me my life back. I am on 40mgs of furosemide still they did drop it from 80mgs and it freaked me out but the surgeon said my heart now was strong enough to pump the fluid, he was right, first thing in a morning I can go to the loo 5-6 in the first hour after taking it. Looking at your bio you are the same age as my youngest son, I am so sorry to read you have had heart issues being so young.

I wish you well and hope you get stronger every day.
