Boris Johnson is to hold a No 10 press conference with the chief medical officer for England, Professor Chris Whitty, and the Government's chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, at 17:00 GMT, Downing Street says.

At this point I'm 'ok' with the rolling lockdowns (Scotland's was announced a few hours before the English one), what is deeply worrying is the hinting this latest mutation, dubbed the South Africa one, is going to be revealed as being more severe than the original and UK variant.

I can commiserate with parents who are not happy schools are shut again across the UK but the SA mutation is so infectious I'm all for closing the schools.

But the meme you've posted is a nice day brightener, in a grim, gallows humour sort of way, so thank-you for that.

That as made my day, what a hoot. Had a FaceTime conversation with youngest this morning and came away very down, all about the South African variant. So seeing this lifted my mood thank you.

Oh No! I've just spent the morning taking the Christmas decorations down, and the house looks empty and miserable, and now I've got these 3 to look forward to at 17.00! Can't they wear silly hats or something to try and cheer us up a bit?

We have left one set of Christmas tree lights up on a bookcase just to try and make it look a little more cheerful.

I took the tree and lights outside down yesterday, and put all the bits away from dinning room and lounge - only had the main tree to take down this morning - was very tempted to leave it up!

It clashes with tea time here so I will have to catch up later. Might be interesting as it was "send your children to school" on the Andrew Marr show and "close all schools" yesterday! I won't say more or I will get my wrists slapped!
