Hi every one I recently had a heart attack totally unexpected I was really healthyat 57. I had 5 cardiac arrests on the way to hospital a stent fitted when I got there. A procedure to regulate heart beat and now have heart failure . I am really frightened and anxious now. My biggest problem however is that I can’t sleep, even with the zopiclone they gave me initially I couldn’t sleep. Anyone else experiencing this and found a solution. Is it the medication or just the anxiety. It’s has been helpful to read your stories so enjoying being part of this group

Dear GillyossyYour brain does not approve of HAs and will make every effort to steer away from such shocks.

All sorts of fears and reactions go on inside our amazing brains.

To recover we need, amongst other things, to get the right sleep. For me that is retiring at 10pm and having 7.5 hrs sleep. It took months to work that out but i benefit so much from the right amount of sleep.

I tried sleeping with a light on. Using a tinnitus relaxer. Changing mattress. Sleeping in the spare room. Sleeping in the lounge. Using 5 pillows. Sleeping colder. Sleeping hotter.

I have also slept better after gentle yoga and also after group relaxation.

In this world, where we worship being busy, a bit of meditation goes a long way.

Apart from sleeping hotter, which doesnt work for me, all the above helped.

I learnt all this following stroke five years ago. This year i had OHS and it dawned that my brain is shocked, just as it was from a stroke.

Anxiety and fear are all wound into our problems.

But once i began getting proper sleep, everything could start to recover. Daily exercise, reasonable diet and just having time for myself, all work wonders.

Good luck

Colin
