Unusual type Ectopic

I have been looking at the posts on Ectopics and wonder of anyone on this forum has experienced a rather startling type of sensation at the point of dropping off to sleep. This is akin to a large powerful ectopic that jolts one awake in panic and often have to sit up needing a large gasp of breath. The whole event only lasting a few seconds followed by normal resting sinus rhythm. An odd question I know, but if one does not ask, then do not know if others experience. Love any feedback.

YES!!!! Hello mate, I think I have similar or had same, so I noticed about 4-5 years ago I couldn’t fall asleep after work like I used to (on sofa etc) this went on during the night right before losing consciousness to sleep I would jerk awake (never noticed ectopic then) and as months/years would go on I’d then get the same but with being out of breath, also along with these at the very beginning a symptom I can’t describe but I’ll try....before trying to fall asleep I’d feel almost “high” as I was trying to nod off it was an odd feeling like my heart was too slow yet felt that high feeling??? I just put it down to being sooooo tired tho but that feeling was when it all started.

Fast forward to feb this year and find it easier to fall asleep with white noise, but occasionally if I have heart palpitations in the evenings I notice I get those symptoms of 4-5 years ago but this time I feel the jerk awake is an ectopic beat, so could be similar.... gps tell me and told me then that it’s a typical stress symptom, I’ve paid over 2k for heart tests and they found nothing so far the stress and anxiety words keep coming up which I’m not overly convinced about, but just to add on a positive, I don’t struggle as much as I did actually falling asleep, hope this helps in some way

Hi Dazgad .......fabulous reply and almost mirrors my problem which I have endured for years. Thanks so much - it is so nice to realise I am not alone. 😀

Are you sure it's not a Hypnic Jerk which is entirely normal ?

I had looked at that along with a sleep Ap test. Good suggestion but seemingly not but can't be 100 pct certain as never recorded.
