Is it morally and chemically acceptable to take one’s tablets with a glass of alcohol free beer?

Asking for a friend😅

I am known to wash my 8pm tablets down with whatever drink is closest at the time.

This can be water, a homebrew New England style IPA, or a fine merlot.

But never gin I feel that is going to far.

Please don't tell anybody😂

A friend of mine knocks his evening tablets back with a generous helping of a 12 year old malt!

Now your talking. Sadly my Nicorandil comes with a strict no alcohol warning (unless anyone knows better).

Ooooooo. May have forgotten which one then, perhaps it’s Adizem. Having discussed it before, GP was very clear about something😳

NHS says only you must not drink too much alcohol

Ah... define too much... 😂 I need to go through and check. It was something that even a small amount of alcohol would amplify he effects- I think lowering blood pressure (which is always a bit low for me anyway)

Haha

Yes all the medications for angina lower your blood pressure. Alcohol also so you have to make a judgement if you drink alcohol will your Blood pressure drop so much you feel faint or dizzy.

If not then if you enjoy a glass of wine, beer or whisky then maybe don't worry too much?

While in principle, I agree, when it’s the only option..... Becks Blue, when really cold, is pretty much like the fully leaded version (so not beer😀) and quite drinkable. Old Speckled Hen Low Alcohol is bearable too, under the circumstances. The Harvey’s low alcohol bottled ales are pretty good really (if you can get them). Sainsbury’s LA Rose wine is pleasant as a memory of rather dubious Mateus copies from the 70s, and ok with a salad or a patio!

Those two beers you have mentioned are terrible, if you think they are good treat yourself to either Adnams Ghost ship or a recent discovery Shipyard IPA "Low Tide", both from Tesco. 0.3 units per 500 ml so not worth worrying about, and excellent drinking. That speckled Hen no alcohol was possibly the worst effort I have ever tasted!

I suspect that taste buds respond differently to the LA beers, then there is personal preference ( I’m a dark and strong tasting man🤓). Didn’t like the Adnams, worse of the lot is the Brew Dog stuff.

in reply to HectorsDad

As a big fan of the "proper" old speckled, I was bitterly (ow ow) disappointed when I tried it's no alcohol sister, thought it was awful. I don't mind the Nanny state, but I accept most of the Brewdog stuff is very hoppy and a bit unusual. My lad lives in Bristol, they have some good stuff down there, if you are a dark man you might want to try and get hold of some Milk Stout made by a brewery called Wiper and True, it's bloomin gorgeous, ideal for washing the pills down with.

I fully endorse this post, especially with regard to Shipyard Low Tide!!!!

Last night it was a glass of BrewDog’s Barnard Castle Eye Test.

Delicious.

Did they name that one after Dominic Cummings?

I think there might be some connection 😀. If you like IPA and wheat beer styles you’ll love it..

From Wikipedia: In 1978, the Prime Minister of India, Morarji Desai, a longtime practitioner of urine therapy, spoke to Dan Rather on 60 Minutes about urine therapy. Desai stated that urine therapy was the perfect medical solution for the millions of Indians who cannot afford medical treatment.

It probably doesn’t matter. Take your tablets with a glass of your own piss, which may taste better than low alcohol beer/wine etc. Just saying.

Brilliant. now we know what they put in Carling Lager. The beer might not be fantastic but no alcohol wine is utterly dreadful.

Hi all, I’m a new member and just starting life on 2.5 mg of Bisoprolol to try and de-sensitise my irregular HB mainly brought on after 3 hours of golf or a 5 mile walk. Anyway seems to be working so far so good, reading these posts have really made me smile and they give me hope as a long time lover of IPA and a nice glass of red wine. I too have been forced down the low alcohol road, but I must say times have definitely moved on from Kaliber 😝

I do enjoy the BrewDog Punk AF and Nanny state and the Infinite Session IPA non Alcohol beers and I’m off to buy the Shipyard and Adnams to give them a try.

Hopefully I can still have a couple of my favourite BrewDog Punk and Shipyard IPA’s as a treat on a weekend.

👍👍

I have just put my tin hat on and am going to say that as far as I am aware there are few medications that us lot take that preclude having a couple of wets now and again? I was on all the usual ones just after my stents and still had normal beer, padded out with low alcohol ones. I would hate to give anyone the impression I am teetotal or anything. I am sure that in moderation it is fine, I think it just lowers your BP but I never noticed much difference when I was on Bisoprolol and had a "couple".

I'm a great supporter and practitioner of alchemy and chemistry and have successfully converted many gallons of alcohol into urine.

Sounds like the joke about the Irishman. You could get a job at the Carling factory recycling it.
