Has anyone had side effects when withdrawing from ramipril? I have been experiencing fatigue and headaches, not sure if that's normal!

Hi

Thanks! I had no problems being on it, my problems have been since I came off it! I was ok when it tapered but the last 10 days or so without any drug I have felt very tired with a constant headache. Thought it might be a withdrawal effect.

Hi there Raggarty yes l am at the moment going through withdrawal symptoms of rampril yesterday felt dreadfull headaches tired generally feeling not well no get up and go,but l am my own worst enemy when it comes to rampril l go weeks with good blood pressure readings then all of a sudden it spikes so l go back on rampril l keep dipping in and out with them l take them for say 2 weeks then stop for about 4 weeks sometimes off them for months then a spike and back on them l go but l also get the horrible withdrawal effects because l keep doing the on off think which l know l shouldn't but really dont like taking tablets.

Hi Tayolamayo999. I am also on 5mg Ramipril and also dont like taking tablets and have been on them since my heart attack (December 31 2019) and want to come off now I have lost 3.5 stones, exercise each day and have normal BMI. I will let you know how I get on.

I am also on 1.25 bisoprolol.

Thanks for replying, you really should take the meds that you need. I feel like you, but please don´t put yourself at risk. My heart damage has been as a result of long term chemotherapy, some forms of which can damage the heart. Hopefully you will never have to endure a horrible illness but your heart and general health needs to be in the best condition possible to withstand toxic treatment. As I say, I am sure you won´t ever be in my situation but the lesson I learned is to do everything you can to look after yourself! Best wishes and good luck.

Hi Raggarty,

See my reply to Tayolamayo999 above.

Are you wanting to come off the tablets because of a specific reason ?

Yes they make me feel lousy just so tired and headaches plus make me eat more l only have them because my B.P. responses to stress whenever l get stressed or have a worry it spikes for a bit and then that worries me vicious cycle really.

Yes I am the same. When I get out of bed in the morning my blood pressure is normal, then I take my 5mg Ramipril with breakfast. During the day my blood pressure is affected by stress/anxiety (goes above normal even on ramipril) and exercise (goes down afterwards) and by bedtime is well under 120/80. Will be interesting to see what happens when I abstain for a few days.

I want to see if the 3.5 stone weight loss and exercise has naturally reduced my blood pressure.

Hi the weight loss is key to lowering blood pressure l have always been about 9 half stone but put a stone on that's when blood pressure along with extra weight and stress like you l am now going on my treadmill for 30mins every morning hopefully knock that extra stone off 😁

Hi there,

Thanks for replying. I started Ramipril as a result of heart damage through long term chemotherapy. Thankfully I'm currently in remission, and although I have some heart damage its not heart disease. Everything has been stable for a couple of years and the plan has been to get me off the medication because I´m not considered to be at risk for a cardiac event. My 5mg per day has been tapered by my cardiologist, its just the last 10 days or so Ive taken nothing and have been really tired with a bad headache. Almost like a hangover, albeit its been a long time since Ive had one of those!

Hi

No problem! I was put on Ramipril because I underwent long term chemotherapy and needed some forms which resulted in heart damage. I do have some permanent damage but its damage not disease and has stabilised. So, after 3 years on various heart medications my medication was tapered, and now stopped. Just been feeling very tired and with bad headaches for a week. Thanks for replying.
