Mildly dilated left ventricle

Hello

I’m looking for a little advice please?

I have paroxysmal a fib and l’ve just had a cardiac mri as l was feeling breathless and it revealed a mildly dilated left ventricle, a mildly dilated atrium and a below normal EF which was apparently 57.

My echocardiogram in December was normal.

I have now been told that l need to see a doctor specialising in Cardiomyopathy. I am a carer for my adult daughter who has mental health problems and l am now in a really frightened state by all of this, as this information was received by letter and it all sounds really worrying.

I have no idea when l will see this other expert. Does anyone have anything similar or who could offer some words of advice. Thanks so much in advance.

Yea, I had this nasty shock at the start of the year after a stress mri. My EF was 46%. I know the EF range is up to 59% for some strange reason on the MRI hospital scale because many cardiologists consider above 50% as normal, so try not to worry to much. Since my diagnosis I’ve had my ramipril and Amlodipine increased to reduce my blood pressure and increased my exercise capacity gradually. I also know someone who had dilated cardiomyopathy with an EF of 26% and changed her lifestyle, meds and lost weight and increased her EF into normal range and was subsequently discharged. So fear not my friend, ‘you’ve got this covered’ 👍🏻

Thanks so much for that reassuring reply.

After the stress cardiac mri l thought they might tell me my arteries were blocked (no idea why l thought that though!) so it was a bit of a shock being told this as l wasn’t expecting it!

Anything to do with my heart worries me as l worry about not being able to look after my daughter-l don’t think they realise the stress that’s caused when they copy you into the very impersonal letter to your doctor! Thank you for replying to me
