Concerned about Dental Treatment - WPW Syndrome

Hi all,

I hope everyone is safe and well during the current situation.

I'm wondering if anyone can offer me some advice on how dental treatment is performed (At least for them) for those of us who have arrythmia's (Particularly anyone else who has wolf-parkinsson white syndrome)

I have unfortunately broken a tooth (I bit the stone in a plum, Sheer stupidity) and due to the pandemic situation am stuck without dental treatment for a little while at least. But when i'm able to get an appointment i'm very ill informed on how to proceed or what dental treatment looks like for those of us who have been diagnosed with arrythmias/WPW syndrome.

Any insight or personal stories would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards L

This is not really similar, but I do have experience of the heart and dental combination.

This was before the virus. I’ve had three HAs, lots of stents, angina, and fibrillation

I had a wisdom tooth needed extracting. and the Dentist (private) said to be safe I needed to go to the Hospital.

It then took 29 weeks wait, as i was not a priority.....being a cancer patient appeared to be the only stated priority.

Ask for the local anesthesic they give to pregnant women as it doesn't have adrenaline in it.

I hope it goes well. Be good to hear you will soon be safely getting the treatment you need.

I have other heart conditions so can't comment on your specific conditions but I can say with complete confidence talking to your dentist before treatment appointments are booked is the safest way to go forward.

Most dentists prefer patients to book an appointment just for discussing how to go forward when a dental patient has 'underlying conditions' that might complicate dental treatment - check with yours to see if you can do that over the phone now during the pandemic so once you can book a face-to-face treatment appointment, no time will have to be spent discussing how to progress.

All the best to you (I have endured dental pain for a length of time waiting for an appointment and it's awful!), please update us to let us know how you've got on, and to help other patients with similar conditions as well.

What a nuisance! I run a dental practice and my husband is a dentist. Best thing to do is let your dentist know about your broken tooth and give him your consultant’s details. They should have a chat and discuss fully with you before any treatment.

Things are returning to a more normal way in the hospitals and your dentist is probably not working in surgery so maybe a good time to get the communication between them going.

Take care

Just an update for anyone who sees this.

Dental appointment went well and after explaining my anxieties to the Dr she told me not to worry, That they will give me an anesthetic that contains no epinephrine and will be just fine.

So after all my concern I feel very relieved 😊Lovely lady really helped put me at ease

Actually kind of looking forward to getting my broken tooth sorted now 🤣
