I had my 2 stents 24/3/20 after my heart attack on 18/3/20. I had a few niggles the first week then they seemed to die down. But from last night and all day today. I seem to have some kind of discomfort. I’m the middle of my chest. I didn’t go for my walk today just incase. Can the niggles stop then return. I’m really not doing anything over the top. Am I just being paranoid since they stopped then I feel like they have returned.
Many thanks Sorcha

Yes small niggles, sharp pain that lasts a few seconds, twinges and aches in chest (tightness) are quite normal after a HA and stent placements. I had my HA nearly 5 weeks ago and a stent and went through the same as you. Since the heart is a muscle it takes time to heal from the stress of the angioplasty and you usually get some discomfort. Added to the fact that you are (like me) quite anxious that it could be another HA, which adds to the symptoms, but my Cardiologist advises that only if you feel the same pain in the chest that you had during your HA that you should come straight back to A&E.
No you are not over reacting many of us go through the same.!! Take care
My cardiologist said the same to me. About feeling the same pain. I’m worried that I’ll not remember what that pain was. 😔I suppose I am anxious because the pain had gone away. But it’s been a dull ache all day. Did yours stop then return. Thanks for the reply. As your 2/12 weeks further on. How much excerise are you doing now. Have you any idea how long we should be careful of this pandemic. Have you done any shopping or is someone doing it for you. xxx stay safe.
Yes, the pain comes and then goes away, I keep a diary so that I can discuss with the Cardiologist, I usually get the tightness in the chest in the evenings and the twinges after or during exercise. The dull pain in the chest was also intermittent, but far less frequent now, almost 5 weeks down the track.
I’m exercising everyday, either a walk or bike ride for 30-40 minutes. When I was at 2 weeks like you ( I made sure I walked at least 20 minutes a day) I also wear a HR monitor and keep my heart rate below 125, as advised by the Cardiologist, since I was getting those Short, sharp stabbing pains when my HR went higher.
With regards to the pandemic, I think just listen to the advice given by the experts, I think we are are greater risk of the virus having a worse affect on us due to our heart condition being relatively new. Sometimes I walk to the shops with my partner, but she goes in the shops and does the shopping and I wait outside, keeping my distance from everyone. I hope you are feeling a bit better today, take care
Thank you so much. I feel much better today. Yes we walk for about 30 minutes like you and my husband goes into the shop. The reassurance is great thanks. I hope you continue to keep well. X
My experience was the same. first 2/3 weeks i’d get quite a few odd pains . niggles and sensations
sharp / tight / numb and burning. i went back to a&e and they checked me over and reassured me i was ok and it’s normal to get odd feelings.
i went 7/8 days without anything and the suddenly had 24 hours of off pains and discomfort! hence why i decided to get checked by a&e.
main point for me was pain was generally very isolated. cardio team basically said that if i can pin point where the pain is, then it’s very unlikely to be heart itself.
The discomfort I now get is very mild and the episodes are few and far between. i’ve had nothing like i experienced during the first 2/3 weeks.
all that said. IF you are not sure then call 999. do not worry about wasting anyone’s time !
Thank you. I’m sure if things where normal. Without a pandemic we would have the Heart nurses to ask for reassurance. I feel like I know I’m fixed so why am I fussing. But I supppose we will be like that. Xx keep safe.
to be honest. the hardest part at the beginning was my mental well being.
i knew i was ok physically - the cardiologist had sorted the blockage! but being able to mentally accept that and mentally deal with having had a heart attack (i’m 45) was very tough.
i spent most of every day thinking about it and struggled to get to sleep for a while.
i am much much better and very rarely even think about it now.
walking has helped. i go out on my own every day, for around an hour at a time - with headphones and fav music and just walk.
it’s been really good for both mental and physical well being.
Yes I’m 46 totally mindbending stuff. The shock was massive. Plus dealing with everything alone was difficult. I had a few days while I had to wait to see if I would need a bypass. That was tough and I was extremely scared at that point. I remember the nurse, who I knew wheeling me around from the cath lab saying. Sorcha you shouldn’t be here. 😭😭😭😭. I’m not ready to go out on my own just yet but I will. I’m quiet enjoying this part with my husband. I wouldn’t have had it under normal circumstances so I’ll take advantage of this pleasure for as long as I can. Thank you. Xxx
