Hi Yals,

My rehab exercise sessions were also cancelled due to the current Covid19 restrictions.

Fortunately, my cardiac rehab team provided me with a very useful BHF personal trainer dvd and booklet. I'm finding this very helpful and, something to do during these days of lockdown.

My cardiac nurse was able to advise on the level I should commence at, maybe your rehab team could help you ?

I had HA 4 weeks ago and am also walking 40 mins a day and awaiting the BHF DVD, I have had telephone consultation with physio from rehab team. Advice for next week or two is increase walking to 45 - 50 mins with intervals, 5 easy, 5 brisk. Ok to be out of breath but should be able to hold short conversations. Obviously stop if in any pain. Have been told to start on level 3 of BHF dvd. Hope that helps.

If you go to the BHF site there is a lot of information about rehab exercise and they can send you a free pamphlet. Key things are gentle increments. Don’t push too hard too quickly. Also watch out for the cold when walking. Veey cold puts pressure on the heart.

I was going to post something similar. I had my HA and 2 stents at the end of November. I'm not quite sure why it had taken so long but I had a rehab assessment in early Feb and was due to start the rehab on 1 April which has now been postponed until the Covid-19 situation is over. I've also been walking and managing 10,000+ steps per day since early Jan but keen to know what else I should be doing. I haven't been offered a DVD but would be keen to acquire one. I called the BHF Heart Line on Friday and was told that something will be put up on the BHF website within the next 2 weeks

If you've been given no guidance from your rehab team, then go to the BHF website where there is guidance and publications on exercise for cardiac care. The 40 min walk sounds good but listen to your body and only do what you feel able to. Indoors I'm now using an exercise video specially prepared by a trainer of Seniors Fitness which I normally go to. There may also be films on the web, youtube, etc. Then again, anything is better than nothing so be creative.
