WPW Syndrome and advice needed

HI everyone, I'm new to this and could really do with some friendly advice.

I've been recently diagnosed WPW syndrome and was due to have catheter ablation yesterday, which was cancelled due to corona virus.

I've been suffering for a few years with night sweats, palpitations, tiredness, swollen ankles and doctors have just said it was due to the menopause. 4 weeks ago I went to my GP with a list of symptoms, with 5 that could be heart related, he advised that he would send me to cardiology to rule out heart conditions.

A week later I have my first appointment with the cardiology clinic and a routine ECG, The Specialist Nurse looked at my ECG and asked if anyone had ever told me about my pre-excitation of the heart, this was a shock as I've had numerous pre-operative ECG's and never been told.

6 days later I ended up in A&E with left arm and neck pain, this resulted in accelerating diagnoses. I had an angiogram which showed no blocked arteries but they saw the WPW on ECG tests, before I was discharged the consultant briefly advised that I needed the catheter ablation as "I was more at risk if left than if treated"

Today I received a letter from the cardiology consultant, which mentions that it is possible that I could have had a period of pre-excited atrial fibrillation or could have had just some AVRT with a pause on termination, ECG also showed short PR interval and delta wave.

Due to the fact that this has all happened quickly and with Corona Virus I'm not able to now have the procedure discussed while in Hospital, all of the above have left me feeling confused and scared as I've not had a chance to speak to anyone at length to understand my condition.

My concern is, does this now make me at risk? What are the do's and dont's?

Apologies for the long winded post but a month ago I thought I was just a 57 year old menopausal woman, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I'm so sorry to hear this. I would ring Bhf Nurse I can't believe how they helped me with just one phone call. My anxiety level reduced they put me on to this forum which is really helpful. I would say you are in the at risk group. I'm awaiting heart surgery for a new aortic valve next week still no confirmation it's going ahead.

These are unprecedented times I know that, but when like you, are sufferring, experiencing symptoms and need answers its very hard to accept.

Take care, stay safe

Best wishes

Suzanne
