Today is the first day of Lent. What are you giving up? And how many pancakes did you have?

We forgot so had none. Still deciding what to give up - maybe the occasional sneaky piece of cake! :(

Procrastination. (Ok, yes, chocolate and using profanity as well).

Lent is one of my looked forward to seasons, I use the time to take a deep look at my life and try to make changes.

Pancakes. So glad you confessed you forgot - we did until just before going to bed last night. I never forgot when the children were home.

I'm not too concerned bout the length of time, by the time I got into work yesterday I'd forgotten I'd given up chocolate. Someone had brought in some birthday food and I'd eaten bout 3 chocolate millionaire bites before I remembered and last night I barely remembered I'd given up alcohol!! 😂

I’m waiting for Ramadan then it’s all day fast til break it night which is difficult at first but then get used to it pancakes are delicious althou I don’t know how to make them

The Qur'an requires Muslims to fast during the month of Ramadan from sunrise to sunset.

However, there are exceptions to this. One of them is that people who are ill or have medical conditions do not have to fast. This includes people with diabetes, heart disease, kidney problems, etc. To find out more about this, you can speak to your Imam.

Yes you are right michael but it depends on medications and times taken but so far I fast but some times when I feel tired or not well so do not fast or break it earlier muslims if they don’t feel well can break it pay a fee to the poor or make up for it when well in the year my daughter is diabetic type one but can fast she has insulin but she also takes advice from her gp

Obviously it is a personal decision but a few years ago when Ramadan fell around the longest days the local hospital had a number of emergency admissions due, particularly in diabetics, to dehydration. Very high BGs and ketoacidosis were also issues. If a diabetic suffers a "hypo" treating it is a medical emergency!

Yes I agree totally that is why in Ramadan if anyone suffers from such illnesses as diabetes it is best not to fast without the knowledge of the gp and it says there is no need to fast if one can’t or any harm will come of it and pay a fee for the whole mth to the poor which will compensate the fasting

Don`t like pancakes and my vicar said we don`t always have to give something up,do something extra like reading the Bible daily or a daily act of kindness.Mind you he looks like Friar Tuck so obviously won`t give up any food item.

Mmm... pancakes. Love them!

I've uped my game every year in terms of giving things up. This year I'm going for it and giving up cakes, biscuits, chocolate, sweets & crisps. Wish me luck 😊
