I was never allowed HRT once I was diagnosed with high blood pressure because of my family history of heart disease. I suffered for years and was offered very little treatment or support for menopausal problems.

I'm currently menopausal and gynae has said I can go on HRT as long as cardiologist approved it. I'm 47

Hi Platypus6

This is the recommendation from the European Society of Cardiology's recently published guidelines and management of chronic coronary syndromes (angina and coronary heart disease)

'The results from large randomized trials have shown that hormone replacement therapy provides no prognostic benefit and increases the risk of CVD in women aged >60 years.'

It is a difficult decision if you have menopausal symptoms that effect the quality of your life.

Have you discussed this with your Cardiologist?

Hi Milkfairy thank you for that information, no I haven’t discussed it with my cardiologist not sure when I will see him again.

If you have no upcoming appointment perhaps go and see your GP and ask them to contact your Cardiologist for further advice.

It was my GP who prescribed the hrt patches, I wasn’t sure if they were safe to use. I have always had hot flushes since my forties when I had a hysterectomy now they are far worse.

Even more reason to go back to your GP.

Give them the reference to the ESC guidelines I sent you and ask the GP to discuss this with your Cardiologist.

GPs are human and it must be really difficult for them to keep up to date as patients we need sometimes to give them a helping hand!
