Evening, my 50 yr old husband had a heart attack over the weekend and today found out he will be having a bypass due to diabetes. My question is can i get a sick note for myself so i can travel with him for the op, as they don:t do it in our county. would i ask for a sick note for stress as i, not sleeping etc and have been off this week and being paid but have been told i wont get paid for anything other then my sickness,

I'm pretty sure that in the UK a doctor would issue a sick note on compassionate grounds in these circumstances. Also a lot on employers will offer paid leave on compassionate grounds as well.

When you say they don't do it in our county, what country are we talking about, there may be someone on this forum who would have experience of the situation in the said country

hi, i meant county not country, I dont usually ever go to the Dr so was unsure if they would give me a note. My employer is paying his week but thats discretionary and wont be paid unless its me whos sick and seeing as its only the 2 of us we have no one else closeby to help. Thankyou for the reply

Hi susie69. It depends on your employer. If you’re unwell because of your stress and lack of sleep then your Doctor will be able to provide a note for your employer. Some organisations have compassionate/contingency leave but that’s normally to make emergency arrangements. You may find you need to take holiday or unpaid leave to accompany your husband. It’s a really stressful time for you both but there are plenty of people on this forum who’ve had a heart attack (me for example age 55) and bypasses and have diabetes. And they’ll tell you inspiring stories of lives well led for a long time. I appreciate it doesn’t help you get around your current situation. Has your husband got any critical illness insurance or in a mortgage? If you’re paying a mortgage can you pause it for a couple of months to get you over this hump? Good luck.

morning,

thankyou for your reply . I will be going to see the GP as soon as i can get an appointment. When i"m in bed i'm worried about husband and work so getting very little sleep. Yes its very stressfull. Sadly when hubby was in his early 20's we went through cancer with him,so he has no insurance sadly as we coudn't afford it.
