I have suffered from AS and AR for over 10 years. I always considered that measurements for Peak gradient (PG) Peak Aortic velocity (PAV) and valve area(VA) to be good indicators of how I 'am' together with my general activity level. My LV function and dimensions have always been Good and Normal. Over the past 5 years things have unsettled me a bit as I cannot rely on the accuracy of these measures.
Four years ago my diagnosis was AS mild/mod, AR moderate PAV 3.2m/sec PG 42mmHg VA 1.3cm sq.
Three years ago my diagnosis was AS mod/severe, AR mild/mod, PAV 3.9m/sec PG 57mmHg, VA 0.9 cm sq.
Two years ago my diagnosis was AS mod/severe, AR mild/mod, PAV 3.8m/sec PG 60mmHg, VA 0.9 cm sq.
One year ago my diagnosis was AS moderate, AR mild/mod, PAV 3.6m/sec PG 51mmHg, VA 1.1 cm sq.
March this year, my diagnosis was AS moderate, AR mild/mod, PAV 3.6m/sec PG 51mmHg, VA 1.1 cm sq.
September this year, my diagnosis was AS moderate, AR mild, PAV 3.2m/sec PG 40mmHg, VA 0.6 cm sq.
on all measures apart from VA things are the same or slightly better than 4 years ago; the VA is of great concern to me as this is 'serious' yet I feel (apart from the stress) just as active and asymptomatic as the last 10 years or so. Is there anyone who has technical knowledge who can assess whether my view that the VA must be wrong is reasonable or not? Thanks a lot,
Ron
