Mitral regurgitation and enlarged heart

Hi all I was recently diagnosed with a heart murmur by my gp and was sent for scan.. The results came back showing the tissue holding the mitral valve was damaged and my heart is enlarged.. Not the best news I've ever had, I am due to see the cardiologist in mid November for further tests. I have been put on bisoprolol 1.25mg and perondropal 2mg once a day. I did go to A&E last week because I thought I had a bit of a tight chest but my bloods and ecg were OK. I was told it was OK to carry on working as an hgv driver but not to do any heavy lifting or too much exertion.. Obviously it has been worrying me so was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and what was the outcome.. Thank you

I developed this following my heart attack this year. Hopefully your cardiologist will tell you how much the mitral valve is misbehaving. I’ve bern told there are a couple of risks to it - heart failure (cardiac insufficiency is a better term - it’s not a death sentence) and atrial fibrillation. The Bisoprolol will be to keep your heart not overdoing it as this can worsen the condition. Tbh my cardiologist said ‘watch your ankles and going up stairs - swollen for the former and breathless the latter, get to GP).

Thanks for your reply sillyfroggy.. At the moment I'm feeling ok.. I will obviously know more when I have my appointment.. I do seem at bit dazed at the moment and put it down to meds and anxiety

I found the same problem when i started on the Bisoprolol, it just takes a bit of getting use to, it does get easier over time, stick with it!

Thanks for your response welshboy77... I'll keep taking meds.. Heard on news today that these types of meds could be more beneficial taken at night so might contact gp if I can get appointment
