Hi all , was just wondering if anyone could answer a few questions. Only 11 days in with my icd / pm and I find myself sometimes a bit jittery especially at night or bit like my pulse is very strong, is that the device kicking in ? How long to your body adjusts to it ? And will they adjust the device on the 5 week check up ?

Hi Wmh79
I felt a bit like that at first, at night woke up a few times and thought my pulse was quicker, was assuming that my heart rate was going down and my ICD was pacing me.
After a few nights, took my blood pressure monitor to bed, and the next time I woke up feeling like this - I checked - BP 110/72 Pulse 61 - which is pretty much my normal figures.
I think it was my mind playing tricks on me - since demonstrating to myself that everything is normal, haven't woken up in the night since thinking my pulse is racing. I guess it's a part of the process of it getting used to having an ICD.
I'm back at the hospital on Wednesday for a check up on the device, will post an update after I've been
Hi, make a note of your symptoms and a rough idea of when they happen and show them to the technician at your check up, they can check and, if necessary, make adjustments to your device. I had a pacemaker fitted as I got complete heart block following my AVR op, I had problems with breathlessness and dizzy spells until they adjusted it at my check up. They should be able to tell when you have your check up whether there are any issues.

Thanks will do that , might take a little trying and adjusting things to suit different people I suppose
They’d set my heart rate too low so when I did anything that raised my heart rate it got out of synch. It’s amazing what they can see from your readings, apparently I had had a couple of very short AF episodes, but I never noticed anything! Just give them as much detail as you can and they’ll be able to make adjustments if needed.

Hi there! Others have already replied in kind, so I'll just say "ditto" to all posts.
They can see everything that's gone on since you received your device, and make any needed adjustments.
I didn't really notice any sensations, or pacing, but I am also on medication that helps with arrhythmias, so that may be why.
It will just take a few more weeks, and I promise, you'll begin to forget it's there, but are so grateful if you ever need it!
