That is good to hear! I to am vegan and my heart health has improved significantly as a result. Wishing you good health.
PS quite frequently when one makes a post regarding the health benefits they have derived as a result of a vegan or vegetarian diet it is not well received by some. Perhaps because it does not align with there thinking and they are not open minded enough to give merit to what many vegans and vegetarians can personally attest to.
Hi, It feels great to know I am not alone on this vegan journey. You need to do your own research along the way and ignore negative comments. There are two supplements for vegans to consider: Vitamins B12 and K2.Good Health be with you.
Hi fellow vegan!💚well done for doing your bit...and ignore the negative comments...you're in your 80s and still doing cardiac exercise...that really says a lot about your healthy lifestyle!
I am close to being vegan, eating some fish, the main problem with vegans is oil which upsets the omega 3 / omega 6 ratio, crucial for heart health, so keep the oil intake down to a minumum. I eat a little olive oil and rarely cook with oil. The oil is cold pressed less than 1 year old. However, I don't feel great right now, still have a lot of stress and still coming to terms with my sudden illness, do you have link to you cardiac exercsie?
Hi I would love to eat more vegan food but am struggling to work out what to eat. Any body got any top tips for recipes etc. At the moment I eat alot of fish, chicken veggies but also concerned about giving up completely on dairy products due to risks of osteoporosis etc. How do you over come those risks?
Thanks very much
Hi,Why do you decide to go vegan?I guess it’s for your health or compassionate reason? Well, start with eating the foods that you eat in a vegan way.Simply swap animal protein for vegetable protein.Top of the list is Quinoa,a high protein grain, then soya bean, other beans and lentils.Look for protein quality rather than quantity. For example the protein quality of quinoa is 80 percent and its quantity(calories) is 18 percent. For Cod it is 80 percent and 58 percent in calories.Quinoa is rich vitamins and minerals and gives you four times more calcium as wheat.Be healthy and happy vegan.
What to eat? Most all whole plant based foods, the possibilities are endless...be creative. Regarding osteoporosis, consume calcium fortified foods such as soy or almond milk, a good multi vitamin and supplement with vitamin D which I have been doing for many years and no signs of osteoporosis. Also, regular weight bearing exercises are helpful as well in maintaining strong bones.
