a lot and when I rinsed my mouth clots of blood were there. I think it all came from my teeth but cannot be sure.

Has anyone had this problem?

You need to check with your doctor about the bleeding. Until then you might try using a really soft tooth brush and hold off on flossing until things get straightened out. I have AF and take a daily blood thinner but havent had any bleeding.

Which anti-coagulant are you on, and when is your next appointment?

This happened to me and I ended up in Aand E. I had hit a vein in my cheek with the tooth brush....... you need to get it checked out. Don;t ignore it especially as you have clots. Told to brush carefully and continued as before and it all settled down. Good luck - I arrived at A and E looking like a hamster with my cheek stuffed full of kitchen paper! Not a good look.

Since you've had a valve replacement it might also be sensible to check with your dentist in case you have some underlying gum disease.

May be you had a nose bleed and it’s come down the back of your throat during the night

I had that and nose bleeds. As your blood adapts to the medications it will decrease and vanish. If not get on to your GP

When I was on blood thinners, this happened to me every time I brushed my teeth. It stopped after my ablation when I was taken off blood thinners. They have not bled for six months then suddenly yesterday I had a blood show round one tooth which was worse after brushing and rinsing, will be going to dentist now I know it’s not the blood thinners this time.

Best check with dentist and tell them if you’re on any other drugs or vitamins / natural remedies as there may be some drug interactions that make your gums more sensitive.

I was told I was in AF the week after I was discharged after 2 valves repaired by keyhole surgery I was put on Warfarin next day this was in March. I didn't have problems with my teeth but one of the wounds in my groin started bleeding after it seemed to be healed I have had to keep applying sterile dry dressings but fingers crossed it's not happened for a couple of weeks. The anticoagulant nurses can't seem to get the dose right, my INR keeps going up and down and so does the dose but it's not settled. I hate being on it and it's a nuisance having to get it checked. I have been told, having seen a consultant a couple of weeks ago, that if I have another good ECG in a month I can come off the Warfarin, you will hear my yippeeee all over the country!!

I’m on Edoxiban and Clopidogrel and two to three of

my teeth bleed. Dr. says I must stay on Clopidogrel for at least one year and Edoxiban for life. I use a very soft

toothbrush and it helps to run it under hot water first.

I also use an interdental brush extremely carefully. On the worst area I just run the toothpaste on by hand.

I use a special toothpaste to help prevent gum disease.

Should have said I have had a stent fitted 7 months ago after a heart attack.
