I’m wondering if being on a waiting list for bypass surgery is something that I should notify DVLC about?

And will I now face even higher holiday travel insurance then because of age and other ailments.

If it is straightforward treatment of narrowed arteries then no. You may continue to drive if you are being treated for angina but not if the angina occurs at rest, when driving or when you get emotional.

Sadly increased premiums are a fact of life. I personally would recommend getting quotes till 6 - 13 weeks post-surgery as they like a period of stability.
