Angina Question

Diagnosed last October with Angina and now 4 weeks with AF. Waiting for some more tests re the AF but have decided to carry on my normal activities [well gingerly most of the time!]

I have only had a couple of instances of chest pain (prior to diagnoses) and never had to use my spray so all good really [apart from the gingerly bit :-) ]

So when doing activities (walking mostly) I am super aware of any pains in my chest hoping nothing comes on but last week when walking I was getting an ache across my back, around the ribs and shoulder blades. I have read that chest pain can spread to your back but not that the pain can only appear in your back. Does anyone else get pain just in their back ?

My mother has AF for many years. She gets terrible pain in her back both during and after an episode. And only her back. No doctor yet has ever been able to explain what it is. She has to take Tylenol and lay down to help the pain. Now I’m wondering if this is a form of angina after reading what you wrote?

Hi nymma01 thanks for the reply, the more I think about it the more I am convinced, I have had a lot more back pain when walking than chest pain and for no apparent reason. Next time I get it I am going to try the spray and see if it does anything.

What spray would that be?

Glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) used to relieve angina pain.

My Angina was ONLY ever in my back / shoulders. Took a long time to diagnose because of that. Turned out to be a totally blocked LAD - so worth being careful.

Thanks for your reply, it is a learning curve on how to manage this for sure.

My husband during 30 years of h.f. including a heart attack never gets angina in his chest but in his back. He knows it's angina as using his g.t.n. spray twice it fades. We still 999 to have him checked though he has home oxygen. The paramedics always say we did right thing and sometimes take him in usually if they detect a little fluid in the lungs. Often they are happy to leave at home with us reassured.
