Hi, 6 week's ago (aged 53 and fairly fit being a postman) I underwent an endoscopic heart bypass at Kings.
Recovery or scar and rib pain has been truly amazing however in the last couple of weeks I have pains in what I can only describe as my left boob.
My brilliant rehab team say its nerve/ tissue damage and I I'm no expert but think they are probably correct.
My problem is that everything is recovering well however I have such annoying discomfort in my "boob" even wearing a T shirt hurts, anything more is just downright painful
Has anyone else gone through a similar operation and know when or if this will ease as its difficult to get proper information as the operation is fairly rare
Thanks in advance
Si

The normal "back to work" recovery time following a bypass is often quoted at six weeks for a sedentary job and eight weeks for a more physical job. However, these are based around the times it takes the breast bone to knit back together. The recovery time for nerve, tenon and muscular damage can be much longer. Everyone's different but it can be anywhere up to a year.
The good news is that at six weeks post op you're over the worst, and you should see a gradual improvement in your residual discomfort from here on out.
Hi - I had a double bypass 4 weeks ago and am experiencing exactly the same symptoms. Even down to the t-shirt being the only thing I want to wear. Can I ask has your discomfort eased yet?
I once had "shingles" and that is the nearest thing I can compare it to. Everything else is healing really well - just hope this stinging / sore boob discomfort starts to ease.
