Are free from foods a Problem

In 2008 I signed up for Biobank uk and got a broadly good set of results, very slightly overweight, BMI 25.3, and waist/height at 37 inches was border line. My blood pressure was 129/76 my percentage body fat was good at 21.8%.

Ten years later I Have broadly similar results but my blood pressure has gone up to 140/80, even though I now take rampiril and much more regular exercise. OK I am getting older so why the increase in blood pressure?

So what has changed in the meantime? Ten years ago free from food was very restricted, No breads, no bourbon biscuits, no ginger biscuits, no chocolate cakes, no lactose free butter, no hot cross buns, very little jam as a result.. Now it is all available - It is a bit like being shown the promised land.

Ah well off for a walk. Might call in on M & S for a last GF scone. Oh Lord make me good - but not just yet. Tomorrow perhaps?

You can't be good all the time so just be kind to yourself. Yes I've noticed that the shelves are morrrrrre full of tempting foods. God damm it. Good luck.

You need to read the labels on the GF foods, and not assume it is a like for like replacement. Some of the gluten free products have a lot more of the bad stuff in them to make them work- but it does vary between brands.

GF bread is especially tricky: most of the decent stuff has a lot of sugar holding it together. And beware the size of the slices- some are about half the size of normal bread, but have the same fat and sugar.

And NEVER read the sugar content of the wonderful M&S gf scones- or you will not enjoy them😉

I’m coeliac, and now post heart attack/stents etc.

The scones have just gone up from £2.00 to £2.50, Rip off alert. I am trying to lose the sugar from my diet to bring down my blood pressure and dump the rampiril. I am struck by the number of people on this site with sludged up arteries, who get the standard 'take the pills' and carry on advice, with vague advice to lose weight and take more exercise. Consequently they then reappear on this with sludged up arteries again.
