Left ventricular thombus

Hello all

My husband had an MI in January and now has moderate heart failure. He had an echo yesterday and was then sent to have an echo with dye because they found a left ventricular thrombus. They said not to worry and sent him home? But today the consultant has phoned him and asked him to go and see him on Friday. I’m panicking slightly. Any advice/ experience of this gratefully received!

First of all try not to panic, easier said than done I know. I am sure the hospital would not be leaving things till Friday if it was in anyway serious. In the meantime, I would suggest calling the BHF helpline, they are great - take care x

As GillMac1 says: Try not to panic. The fact that they want to see you soon means something is probably going to get done. They have caught you before "something happens". Good luck! Keep us posted.

Hi there. The same thing happened to me in May. The thrombus (blood clot) is more than likely still attached to the heart which in itself is nothing to worry about. He will probably be put on a course of warfarin to for at least 6 months to dissolve it. He will no doubt have a further scan then to check it's gone. All the best Chris

Thank you all for your replies. Unfortunately it’s not great news. As well as the clot inside the chamber the damage to the heart is extensive and both bottom chambers are now very enlarged, ejection fraction 31%. The consultant wants to fit a defibrillator and is going to try to change the medication but it’s difficult because his blood pressure is very low (90/50 and pulse around 50 so difficult to increase meds. He’s already on blood thinners so can’t have more. The consultant also said only do gentle exercise, no exertion. I have to remind myself that we are lucky he is here at all. Everyone keeps telling us it was a ‘massive’ heart attack.
