Hi. My GP thinks I may possibly have paroxysmal AF. Problem is, every time I try to catch it on an ECG, it only picks up sinus rhythm. I feel like I'm wasting peoples' time. I just wish it would catch something. My heart is irregular when fast, and has dropped beats too. I know when it's coming, because I get this funny, rising feeling in my throat. I am getting a holter fitted on Wednesday. I just hope against hope it catches something as people think I'm doing it for attention. My family too.
just a question.: Hi. My GP thinks I... - British Heart Fou...
just a question.
I have paroxysmal AF.
I know what u mean about the feelings.
My paroxysmal AF started after I had Open Heart Surgery for a severely leaking Mitral valve.
I was initially rushed to hospital by ambulance 🚑 because of the recent surgery.
The Paramedic managed to catch the AF on heart monitors (although it helps that my son is a student Paramedic) I was going from sinus rhythm, into Atrial flutter then full AF. Intermittently.
Pulse rate was 190 plus, also with what seemed like missed beats.
Apparently the atria can beat at 300 beats plus.
The ventricles can't then keep up they beat at a slower rate.
That's what gives the strange feeling in chest.
I was kept in hospital for 4 days.
I'm now on 2 medications which control it completely.
No issues now.
This needs identifying ASAP keep on to your GP/cardiologist.
Depending on how often you get the AF having high heart rate isn't good.
Also the AF increases risk of stroke.
The medication also sorts this.
If u have any questions message me happy 😊 to help.
Tell your family it is hard to catch on the heart monitor.
It is a well known cardiac condition.
Can lead to serious consequences if not treated adequately.
